The Man
Robert Wilson was originally born and grew up in west Oxfordshire and always knew he could never spend his life working at a desk in an office. Whilst at sixth form, his design and technology teacher entered him into the national Proskills make it: furniture competition, which he would later become one of the finalist for. This allowed him to visit the national school of furniture, Rycotewood in Oxford during their students final show.
Once Robert saw the pieces on display there, he was hooked. After completing his A-levels we went on to study a BA(hons) degree in Furniture design and make at Rycotewood and graduated three years later.
After graduating he went on to work for Matthew Collins where he worked as part of a team of bespoke furniture maker who crafted unique designs for clients, predominately within London but also international. After learning a lot from the team at Matthew Collins, Robert was looking for a fresh challenge so moved he whole life almost 200 miles away to Plymouth in the southwest of England, where he started as a bench carpenter for Princess Yachts.
After seven years and several promotions, Robert felt he was ready for the next challenge, the biggest challenge yet and one he had been dreaming of and working towards since his first visit to Rycotewood over thirteen years ago, starting his own workshop. That was when R. Wilson Furniture was born.
